Forged Aluminum Gear Shift Pedal: Foot Shift Lever with Integrated Pivot
The forged aluminum gear shift pedal is a foot shift lever for powersport vehicles. It has a peg boss at the front, a curved lever arm and a pivot boss at the rear that can be machined with a spline to fit the shift shaft. The rider flicks the lever up and down with the toe, so the arm must hold its shape and dimensions under repeated use and accidental impacts.
Al Forge Tech (AFT) closed-die hot forges the peg boss, arm and pivot boss in one operation with grain flow continuous along the curved arm. After heat treatment, the pivot spline or clamp bore and the peg hole are CNC-machined, and the relative position and angle of both ends are verified on CMM. The finish can be anodized or shot-blasted.

How does a shift pedal differ from a rear brake pedal?
A rear brake pedal is pressed with the ball of the foot and has a large anti-slip pad at the front. A shift pedal is flicked up and down with the toe, usually with a peg boss at the front and a pivot boss that splines onto the shift shaft. Their load directions and operation differ, so the arm bend and section are designed accordingly.
How is the spline in the shift pedal machined?
The pivot spline must mate with the shift-shaft spline and is usually broached or CNC-machined. AFT has an in-house broaching machine to cut internal splines after heat treatment and checks the fit with gauges; the angle between spline and peg hole is measured on CMM to ensure correct gear positions.
