Bicycle Forging E-13: Tapering Arm Forging with Flat Paddle End
Bicycle forging E-13 is an arm-type aluminum forging developed by Al Forge Tech (AFT) to the customer’s drawing. One end is a round bar that transitions smoothly into a wide flat paddle at the other end, with the section changing from round to flat along the arm. The flat end can be machined with mounting holes or used as a clamping or connecting face, as is common on bicycle operating levers, support arms and connectors.
Machining a round-to-flat transition from bar removes a lot of material; forging presses the changing section directly, with grain flow turning smoothly into the flat end, combining good material yield with strength. After hot forging, AFT can heat treat, CNC-machine mounting holes and faces, and finish the part by anodizing or shot blasting.

How does E-13 differ from E-12?
E-12 ends in a round boss suited to a pivot or spline connection; E-13 ends in a wide flat paddle suited to mounting holes or a clamping face. Both are arm-type forgings developed to customer drawings, and the choice of shape depends on how the part is assembled and loaded.
How is dimensional consistency controlled on a forging with a changing section?
Material flow varies greatly through the transition zone and must be precisely controlled by the die. AFT confirms fill at each section with QForm during die design, checks first, middle and last pieces in every production lot, reworks the die when wear causes dimensional drift, and measures key sections on CMM.

Yes. Al Forge Tech offers anodizing (including hard anodizing), shot blasting, vibratory finishing, e-coating and painting, plus pickling and ultrasonic washing lines to clean parts after machining. Please note the finish type and film thickness on the drawing so machining allowances and cosmetic standards for the Bicycle Forging E-13 can be evaluated together.
