Aluminum Shock Absorber Monotube: Outer Tube for Pickup Truck Mono-Tube Shocks
The aluminum shock absorber monotube is the outer body of a mono-tube damper used on pickup trucks and similar vehicles. The part shown is a long thin-walled tube with one open end and a mounting eye at the other for attachment to the frame or suspension arm. In a mono-tube shock, oil and the gas chamber share the same tube, so the body must carry internal pressure, piston friction and suspension impacts.
Al Forge Tech (AFT) cold impact extrudes the thin-walled body for even wall thickness and a smooth bore, then finishes the bore, ends and mounting eye to drawing. An aluminum body is lighter than steel and dissipates heat better, suiting off-road and performance suspension. AFT’s automotive suspension work also includes reservoir tubes, spring seats, lock rings and valve housings.

What does a mono-tube shock body require from manufacturing?
In a mono-tube shock the piston slides directly in the body and a high-pressure gas chamber sits inside, so the tube needs even wall thickness, good bore roundness and straightness, and sufficient pressure strength. After impact extruding the body, AFT finishes the bore and ends to drawing and inspects roundness, straightness and other critical dimensions with CMM and gauges.
