Upper Clamp
Description
Forged Aluminum Motorcycle Handlebar Upper Clamp: Bar Clamp Cap
The forged aluminum motorcycle handlebar upper clamp is the top half of a handlebar clamp: a block-shaped body with a curved clamping groove and bolt ears on each side, which clamps the handlebar tube together with the lower clamp. Sitting right in front of the rider, the upper clamp must carry steering forces from the bar and look good.
AFT’s heavy-motorcycle handlebar clamps have been produced in 6061-T6, 2014-T6 and 7075-T6, including forging, machining and anodizing. Al Forge Tech (AFT) closed-die hot forges the curved clamping face and bolt ears, then CNC-machines the clamping arc, bolt holes and exposed faces after heat treatment, verifying arc radius and bolt spacing on CMM.

Forged Aluminum Motorcycle Handlebar Upper Clamp Manufacturing Process
- Drawing review and DFM: we confirm alloy, load direction and critical dimensions, then run QForm simulation to predict metal flow and defect risk.
- Die design and manufacturing: the number of die sets (for example, blocker and finisher dies) is planned around part complexity, and die contours are checked with a portable 3D scanner.
- Hot forging: closed-die forming on 600T–8,000T hot forging presses creates a continuous grain flow that follows the part contour.
- Heat treatment: T4 solution treatment and T6 artificial aging are performed in-house, with parameters set by alloy and strength requirement.
- CNC machining and finishing: holes, threads and mating surfaces are machined, followed by deburring, vibratory finishing, shot blasting or anodizing as required.
- Inspection and shipment: dimensions, hardness and chemical composition are verified with CMM, hardness testers and a spectrometer, with lot traceability kept under IATF 16949.
FAQ
Do upper and lower clamps need to be machined as pairs?
The upper and lower clamps together grip the handlebar, and the radius and alignment of their clamping arcs affect clamping force and whether the bar slips. AFT can produce both, planning datums and tolerances from the same drawing set, and can inspect them as pairs on request to ensure the clamping faces match when assembled.
How is the appearance of the upper clamp handled?
The upper clamp sits directly in the rider’s view, so appearance matters. AFT controls parting-line position during forging, CNC-machines exposed faces after heat treatment, then anodizes (dyed colors available) or shot-blasts, checking cosmetic consistency on first, middle and last pieces.
How does a forged aluminum Forged Aluminum Motorcycle Handlebar Upper Clamp compare with casting or machining from billet?
Forging shapes aluminum in the solid state under pressure, so the grain flow follows the part contour and the porosity and shrinkage common in castings are avoided. Compared with machining from solid billet, a near-net-shape forging removes less material and shortens machining time. For a Forged Aluminum Motorcycle Handlebar Upper Clamp under repeated loads, forging balances strength and weight; the final choice still depends on design loads and volume.
Can the Forged Aluminum Motorcycle Handlebar Upper Clamp be anodized or given other surface finishes?
Yes. Al Forge Tech offers anodizing (including hard anodizing), shot blasting, vibratory finishing, e-coating and painting, plus pickling and ultrasonic washing lines to clean parts after machining. Please note the finish type and film thickness on the drawing so machining allowances and cosmetic standards for the Forged Aluminum Motorcycle Handlebar Upper Clamp can be evaluated together.
How are MOQ and lead time for the Forged Aluminum Motorcycle Handlebar Upper Clamp determined?
MOQ and lead time depend on part size, number of die sets, alloy and machining scope, and are confirmed in the quotation after drawing review. The typical sequence is die development, forged samples, sample approval and then mass production. Sharing your annual volume and call-off schedule helps us plan dies and capacity for the Forged Aluminum Motorcycle Handlebar Upper Clamp.
